COBBOLD, Louisa Emily
Louisa Emily Cobbold was born at Eye, Suffolk on 11 September 1804, one of the fourteen children of John Wilkinson Cobbold (19 April 1774-12 February 1860), eldest son of John Cobbold (1746-14 June 1835) and Elizabeth née Wilkinson (1753-21 March 1790) and his wife Harriet Chevallier, daughter of Revd Temple Chevallier (15 August 1731-25 August 1804) of Aspall, Ipswich, who married at Aspall on 8 November 1796. Louisa married at St Clement's church, Ipswich on 16 August 1825, David Hanbury (1800-1836), brewer & banker, of Sudbury and of Haughley, Suffolk. Louisa's grandmother, Elizabeth Cobbold prevailed upon the noted artist John Constable to instruct her granddaughter Louisa Emily in the art of drawing, and Constable also painted Elizabeth's stepdaughters Harriet and Sophia, which is in the British Museum. Louisa Emily Hanbury died at Ipswich on 17 November 1889, and she had two sons both named David, one born in 1828, who died young and David II, born 1834, and a daughter Louisa Emily Priscilla (born 1826). She also made the drawings for 'One Day in the Diary of a Stag' (Ipswich 1846) also reprinted as 'One Day in the Life of a Stag' (London 1847), both in Anastatic Drawing.
