SMITH, Leonard Edward

Born at Kensington, London on 21 July 1896, son of George Edward Smith (1859-1907), surveyor for the G.P.O., and his wife Ada née Bryant(1860-1951), who married at St George's Hanover Square, London in 1884. By 1900 they had moved to Ipswich and a 4 year old living at 181 Norwich Road, Ipswich with his parents, 41 year old George and 41 year old Ada, with three siblings Ruby A. M. 11, George C. 9 and Hilda G. 1, born in Ipswich. In 1911 Leonard was a 14 year old law clerk, living with his widowed mother, now a boarding house keeper, with siblings Cyril 19, and Hilda 11. Leonard married at Wandsworth, London in 1917, Bertha Amy A. Bode (5 January 1889-). In 1939 a portrait painter living at 19 Kelvin Road, Ipswich with his wife Bertha. Sometime before 1939 he seems to have changed his surname to MacIntyre-Smith.
