POTTER, Walter

1862 - 1946

Walter Potter was born at Wortham, Suffolk on 26 November 1862, son of Lewis Potter (1833-1891), a shoemaker, and his wife Elizabeth née Bartrum (c1834-1024), who married at Wortham in 1858. In 1871, Walter was an 8-year-old, living at Ling Green, Wortham with his parents, 37-year-old Lewis and 37-year-old Elizabeth, with four siblings, Alice 13, Melina 11, Henry 6 and Agnes 4, all born at Wortham. Walter married in 1885, Emma Minter (1861-1920) and in 1891, a 28-year-old 'artist in crayons', living at Rectory Road, Wortham with his 29-year-old wife Emma, his widowed mother Elizabeth, siblings George 18, Frederick 16 and Melina [Pearl] and her two children. By 1901, he seems to have taken over the family business, and was a farmer & shoemaker at The Ling, Wortham with his wife and several family members and was still living at Rectory Road Wortham in 1911. In 1939, a widower and retired farmer, living at Rectory Road, Wortham where Walter Potter died on 26 October 1946.
