LEISENRING, Alice

1904 - 1986

Born Sandy Run, South Caroline, USA, on 14 September 1904, daughter of Walter Leisenring (1860-1907) and his wife Winifred née Wilson. In 1911, a six year old living at The Blavatsky Institute, Ashley Mill Lane, Hale, Cheshire with her 38 year old widowed mother Winifred Wilson Leisenring, a publisher, born Ontario, Canada with Alice’s sibling brother, 8 year old Walter, born Hazleton, USA. Winifred was at Hale to run the local branch of the Theosophist's Society. Alice studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and exhibited at New English Art Club, the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy 1933-40, from Great Bealings, Suffolk. In 1939, an artist painter living at the Old Vicarage, Rendham, Suffolk with her mother and visitors, Harold Gilead Smith [q.v.] and his wife Madeline. Alice's mother Winifred died in the Blyth district of Suffolk in 1953, aged 79. Alice died, unmarried, in the Waveney district of Suffolk in 1986. Her brother Walter, who was born on 18 November 1902, died in Buckinghamshire in 1977.
