COLLINS, Jesse Thomas

1899 - 1918

Born at Worthham, Suffolk on the Norfolk border near Diss, on 21 January 1899, son of George Collins, horseman on a farm, and his wife Lilian Amelia née Churchyard, who married Palgrave in 1888. In 1911, a 12 year old farm labourer, living at Bury Road, Palgrave, Suffolk with his parents 43 year old George and 43 year old Lilian with four siblings, William 19, Daisy 16, Frederick 14 and Charles 8. In 1903 he entered the local school at Palgrave Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, Palgrave is an adjoining village to Wortham. In 1915, giving his age as 17, he enlisted at Norwich in the army, joining the Suffolk Regiment and on 15 April 1918 was killed in action in Flanders France when 41406 of 2/6th Battalion, Prince Of Wales's (North Staffordshire Regiment) formerly 22070, Suffolk Regiment.
