LAW, Aileen Margaret
Aileen Margaret Fitzmaurice Law was born in British Guiana, now Guyana, South America, on 25 February 1901 and in 1911 she was living in County Down, Ulster with her aunt, 48-year-old Janette Law and Janette's two sisters, all unmarried. Aileen was a pupil at the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing at Benton End, Hadleigh, Suffolk under the direction of Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett-Haines. An art teacher at Blyth School in Norwich and in 1939, an unmarried art teacher, living at 1 Christopher Close, Norwich. In 1942 she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club 'Luftwaffe over Norwich' and in 1944, together with another art master, Walter Thomas Watling and twelve other local artists founded the Norwich Twenty Group of artists. Aileen took cello lessons from artist, Frank Pond and in return, she taught Frank art and introduced him to her former Benton End school and in 1945 Frank also became a pupil at Hadleigh and later also became a member of the Norwich 20 Group. Aileen was also a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle from London in 1947. Aileen Margaret Fitzmaurice Law died at Torridge, Devon on 12 November 2000.
