GERRY, Catherine E. J.

1883 - 1953

Born at Thurso, Caithness, Scotland on 31 March 1883, daughter of James Gerry (born 4 September 1827), a pavement merchant, and his second wife Isabella née Branfoot. In 1901 a 17 year old living at Duncan Street, Thurso with her 74 year old widowed father, and siblings Isobel 19 and brothers Virie 15, Harold 14, James 11 and Howard 8, all born at Thurso. During the First World War she was a nursing Sister in the Territorial Force Nursing Service and in 1934 she spent some time in Spain. In 1939 she was living 'on private means' at 'Prinbertous, Love Lane, Melton, Woodbridge, Suffolk with a servant and an evacuee. She exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1944 two works 'A Nurse' and 'Marie'. She died at Melton in 1953, she was unmarried.
