MYLES, Noel

Noel B. Myles was born at Wood Green, London on 19 October 1947, second son of Douglas Crowe Myles (18 April 1916-12 October 2001), of the Scots Guards, and his wife Freda Ethel née Rayner (20 December 1908-October 2001), who married at Edmonton, London in September 1938 and in 1939 Freda was living at 62 Stirling Road, Haringey, London. Noel studied at Hornsey and Walthamstow College of Art 1966-1970. A painter-turned-photographer, Noel has spent some 20 years documenting the East Anglian countryside in a series of beautiful images made up of dozens of individual shots and works with the photographic image, extending it beyond the single moment and static viewpoint, and is known for his large-scale collages composed of small individual photographs, taken from various view points and at different times, which when joined together make up the larger image. He draws influence from painting, using the texture, line, tone, and colour as a painter would use brush strokes. Noel has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition also showing at the Contemporary Art Society; Inside Space; Royal Photographic Society; Chappel Galleries, Essex; Art Contact; Byard Art, Cambridge and extensively in Europe with solo shows at Cork Street Gallery; Gainsborough House; L'Oriel Ecoute, Limoges and elsewhere.
