LITTLEWOOD, Edward

1836 - 1904

Born at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 29 February 1836, and baptised at St Margaret’s church on 23 March the some year, son of Marmaduke Forster Littlewood (1806-1869), Trinity House pilot, and his wife Elizabeth née London (1805-1878), who married at Gorleston with Southtown, then in Suffolk on 21 August 1826. In 1861, a 25 year old artist living at 1 Prairie, Lowestoft with his parents, 54 year old Marmaduke, born Beighton, Norfolk and 55 year old Elizabeth, born Great Yarmouth and his four siblings. Landscape and marine artist, in 1865 living at London Road, Lowestoft but by 1869 was at 3 Marsham Place, Denmark Street, Lowestoft. He married at Norwich in 1880, Sarah Susannah Lindsey and in 1881, and artist landscape painter living at Nelson Terrace, 4 Dereham Road, Norwich with his 39 year old wife Sarah, born Lowestoft, when he exhibited ‘Summer Afternoon’ at Ipswich Fine Art Club. By 1891 had moved to the nearby 56 St Giles Street with his wife and a four year old son Edward. His wife died the following year, aged 50, and in 1901 Edward and his son were boarding at 29 Bristol Road, Portsmouth where he died in 1904, aged 67.
