LONG, Margaret Louise
Margaret Louise Long was born at Thorpe Hall, High Row, Ashfield, Suffolk on 10 November 1880, daughter of John Robert Long (1855-26 December 1886), a farmer of the 220 acres at Thorpe Hall Farm, and his wife Margaret Martha née Turner (18 April 1856-20 July 1945), who married at Creeting All Saints, Suffolk in 1879. Her father died in 1886, aged 32, when her mother carried on farming at Thorpe Hall where they were living in 1891. In 1901, Margaret was a 20-year-old, living at Dairy Farm, Bramford, Ipswich where her 42-year-old mother was a poultry farmer but by 1911 they were living at ‘Hawthorn’, Claydon, Suffolk on ‘private means’. Margaret was a painter of still life and a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1903-1908, who exhibited ten works in all, her first in 1902 from Bramford an oil, 'Broom Hill', in 1903 'In the Hall', in 1905 'Irises', 'A Group' and two watercolours 'A Christmas Fare' and 'Daffodils', in 1907 oils 'Fruit' and 'Strawberries' with her final show in 1908 two oils, 'Daffodils' and 'Armour'. In 1939, Margaret Louise and her mother were living at The Hawthorns, Ipswich Road, Claydon, Ipswich where her mother died on 20 July 1945. Margaret Louise Long died at 7 Burlington Road, Ipswich on 23 April 1964, aged 83, she was unmarried.
