TREVELYAN, Lady Laura

1804 - 1879

As Laura Capel Lofft, she was born at Troston, Suffolk on 27 July and baptised at St Mary Troston on 17 August 1804, second child of Capel Lofft (1751/2-1824), a member of Lincoln's Inn, and his second wife Sarah Watson née Finch, who married at St Benedict's Cambridge on 10 March 1802, his first wife was Anne née Emblin (February 1753-8 September 1801), who married on 28 August 1778 and had issue as Laura's step-family. Laura's elder sister was Sarah Capel (born June 12 1803) and younger brother Capel Lofft (19 February 18061873). Laura was brought up in Italy and married at Troston on 11 July 1867, Walter Calverley Trevelyan, whose first wife was Lady Paulina Trevelyan [q.v.]. She died at Wallington, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland on 2 April 1879, aged 74 and the executor and beneficiary to her estate was Robert Emlyn Lofft of Troston, Bury St Edmunds.


In the 'Life of James Ferguson' (2010) pp 13 in a letter from Lofft's daughter by his first marriage gives Capel Lofft as being born in London on 20 November 1752 and died at Montcaliere, Turin on 25 May 1824
