MANNINGHAM-BULLER, Alice Jessie
As Alice Jessie Davenport, she was baptised at St Paul, Burslem, Staffordshire on 18 April 1850, daughter of William Davenport (1805-6 June 1869), a pottery manufacturer, of Maer Hall, Staffordshire, and his wife Marianne née Wood (1808-1 July 1870). Alice married at St Margaret's Church, Westminster, London on 28 July 1881, Col Frederick Charles Manningham-Buller (9 June 1837-10 January 1884) of the Coldstream Guards. Alice was a painter of flowers and landscapes in oil and watercolour who lived in London. As Mrs Frederick Manningham-Buller, a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1894-1902 and exhibited twelve works 1895-1898, mostly flowers but also landscapes including a view in Norway. Titles included an oil ‘Sweet Peas’, and watercolours ‘Christmas Roses’ (1895), and ‘The Causeway, Stokesay Castle’ (1897). Alice Jessie Manningham-Buller died, without issue, at Woolmer Green End, Knebworth, Hertfordshire on 10 January 1942. Her elder sister Mary (1834-1923) had married her husband's brother, Morton Edward Manningham-Buller, who inherited the Manningham-Buller baronetcy.
