CULLINGHAM, Lucy Amelia

1865 - 1953

Lucy Amelia Cullingham, was born at Ipswich on 15 April and baptised at St Matthew's church, Ipswich on 10 May 1865, daughter of Charles Cullingham (1820-1890), brewer, and his wife Eliza née Vandenburgh, who married at Islington, London in 1854. In 1881, a 15 year old scholar, living at 115 London Road, Ipswich with her parents, 60 year old Charles and 53 year old Eliza, with six siblings, Margaret Maria 23, Kate Annie 20, Laura Beatrice 18, Charles Sidney 17, Ada Louisa 13 and James Barry 11, all born at Ipswich. Lucy studed at Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 awarded her certificate in freehand drawing. By 1901, she had moved to 26 Belsize Park, Hampstead, London where she was a companion to her 75 year old aunt Cordelia Barry, a widow. By 1939 she was back in Ipswich living at 10 Warwick Road, Ipswich and she died at Brooke House Nursing Home, Henley Road, Ipswich on 28 September 1953, aged 88, she was unmarried.
