GROSS, Maude Elizabeth
Maude Elizabeth Gross was born at Ipswich in 1865 and baptised at St Stephen's Church, Ipswich on 27 June 1866, daughter of Harry Gross (1826-1897), an ironmonger, and his wife Abigail Pain (1829-1922), second daughter of John Hart Pain of Stansfield, Suffolk who married at Stansfield on 15 June 1854. In 1881, a 15-year-old, living at 7 Tavern Street, Ipswich with her parents, 55-year-old Harry and 50-year-old Abigail, with three siblings, Frederick Bertrum 17, Arthur George 13, and Mabel Susan 8, all born at Ipswich. Maude studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art passing her examinations in freehand drawing in 1880 and music examination at Trinity College, London the following year. Maude Elizabeth Gross died at 7 Burlington Road, Ipswich on 10 January 1958, aged 92, she was unmarried.
