HAGGAR, Charles
Charles Haggar was born at Burstall, near Ipswich, in 1866, second son of John Haggar (1825-5 January 1907), a substantial farmer, and his wife Anna Olivia née Fox (1 October 1823-22 March 1922), who married at Coddenham, Suffolk in 1853. In 1871, Charles was a 5-year-old, living at Burstall with his parents, 45-year-old John and 46-year-old Anna, with sibling sister Edith 1, also born at Burstall. Charles studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art gaining his certificate in freehand drawing in 1880 and in 1881, a 14-year-old boarder at Fonnereau House School in Ipswich. He was employed as an apprentice by Ransomes Orwell Works, the Ipswich engineers, when his finger was jammed in one of the lathes and he contracted tetanus and died on 29 December 1882 and was buried at Burstall St Mary Church on 2 January 1883, aged 16.
