JOHNSON, Constance Marion

1864 - 1946

Constance Marion Johnson was born at Tulse Hill, Surrey on 14 May 1864, daughter of Robert Johnson, a civil engineer (30 August 1836-27 August 1901), and his wife Eliza née Miller, who married at Paddington Parish Church, London on 16 January 1861. Later, Robert built a large house at Walton-on-Thames, where his later children were born, before moving in the early 1870s to Boyton Hall in Suffolk. In 1871, the family were living at Oatlands Drive, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, 34-year-old Robert, born at Starston, Norfolk and 35-year-old Eliza, whose family were farmers at Boyton, with their six children, Ethel Mary A. 8, Constance Marion 6, George Frederick 5, Charles Edward Benington 4, Ernest Arthur Benington 2 and newly born son Jo, with a governess and three indoor servants. In 1880, Constance Marion Johnson received her certificate from the Ipswich School of Science and Art for Model Drawing. In 1881, Ethel, Constance and Ernest were living at Berners Street, Ipswich with a housekeeper and general servant. In 1901 she was living at The Colonial House, Hollesley, near Woodbridge, Suffolk and in 1939, Constance and sister Ethel [Weltsh] (born 9 January 1863), a widow, were living at 'Colonia', 8 Conach Road, Woodbridge, Suffolk and where Constance Marion Johnson died on 19 August 1946.
