MAW, Thomas

1843 - 1891

Born at Needham Market, Suffolk in 1843, son of Samuel Alexander Maw, banker, and his wife Rachel, a cousin, and daughter of Samuel Alexander, bank owner, of Goldrood, Ipswich. He married at Bradford, Yorkshire in 1878, Emily Thorp and in 1881 a 37 year old bank manager living at High Street, Needham Market, Suffolk with his 27 year old wife and two children, Rachel and Samuel. A painter in oil of landscapes of Needham Market and a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1886-1890 and exhibited from Needham Market in 1882 a watercolour 'Home Sketches' and in 1883 two watercolours 'In our Garden' and Old Porch, St John's Chapel, Needham' in all he exhibited some twenty works 1882-1890 including in 1890 ‘Old Pollards’, ‘A Weedy Pond’ and ‘A Shady Nook’. He died at Needham Market in 1891, aged 47.
