Stevie Dix

Stevie Dix was born in Belgium in 1990, daughter of a musician & cartoonist and her mother was a sculptor and painter. Her home life was artistic, and Stevie and her siblings have always been painting and drawing or playing music. Stevie attended an artistically focused high school, 'a type of schooling in Belgium where you can choose all art subjects and very little else'. After graduating, she moved to London and began to look at art as an alternative way in developing her independent practice, with the result that her work has been exhibited around the UK, Germany, and Belgium and at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Relocating to Suffolk, the artist shares a studio with her husband Thom Hobson, at Asylum Studios at Bentwaters, near Woodbridge, Suffolk. The artist’s practice began as abstract paintings through mediums of oil paint, spray paint &c. with the result Stevie’s paintings are scaled and emotive. She participated in the Turps Banana Correspondence Course 2016-2017, tutored by artist Phil King (born 1965), and she has been in residency at superzoom, in the South of France. Recent solo exhibitions include ‘Belgian Techno’, Never Gallery (Gothenburg, Sweden); Galerie Chloe Salgado (Paris, France), both in 2020; ‘The Devil’s in the Details’, L21 Gallery (Palma, Spain) and ‘Désert’, NEVVEN Gallery (Gothenburg, Sweden) in 2018. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at Castor Projects (London, 2020), Steve Turner Gallery (Los Angeles, 2019), The Horse Hospital (London, 2019), Plus One Gallery (Antwerp, 2018 and 2017), and Hannah Barry Gallery (London, 2017). She is currently (2020) living and working in Genk, Belgium.
