WOOLMER, Alfred Henry

1854 - 1933

Alfred Henry Woolmer was born at Norwich, Norfolk on 10 March 1854, son of George Henry Woolmer (1820-11 August 1905), a wine merchant's clerk, and his wife Susannah née Parsons (c1823-1873), who married at Hadleigh, Suffolk in 1847. In 1861, Alfred was a 7-year-old, living at Wensum Street, Norwich with his parents, 41-year-old George and 38-year-old Susannah, with his 10-year-old sibling brother George Parsons and in 1871 they were still living there when Alfred was a draper's assistant and George a bookseller. Alfred married at Hornchurch, Essex on 23 December 1882, Mary Louise Ensor (22 February 1861-1 January 1926), third daughter of George Lewis Ensor of Hornchurch and about 1890 they moved to Ipswich. In 1911, Alfred was a 57-year-old travelling photographer, living at 18a Lower Brook Street, Ipswich with his 50-year-old wife Mary Louise, with three children, Eleanor Mary, 27, George Henry 17, a ship's steward and Alice Louise 15. Alfred exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1932 from 18 Tranmere Grove, Ipswich, two watercolours 'At Waldringfield, Suffolk' and 'Cow Hill, Norwich' and the following year from 81 London Road, Ipswich, two works 'Bishop's Bridge' and 'St John's Maddermarket, Norwich'. Alfred Henry Woolmer was of 5 Alpe Street, Ipswich when he died at the East Suffolk & Ipswich Hospital on 16 December 1933.
