COLE, Elsie Vera

1885 - c.1967

Elsie Vera Cole was born at Braintree, Essex on 27 July 1885, daughter of Revd William Johnson Cole, a congregational minister, and his wife Ellen née Homes, who married at Wrentham, Suffolk in 1884. In 1911 Elsie was a 23 year old art student, living at The Avenue, Braintree with her parents, 58 year old William and 57 year old Ellen, with a sibling sister 20 year old Hilda Mary. A painter, engraver (etching) and exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1933 from 13 Claremont Road, Norwich an etching 'Elm Hill, Norwich'. In 1939 an art mistress still at 13 Claremont Road with a housekeeper Ethel Cowling. The author of 'Norwich: A Sketch Book' (c.1920) and she died in the Depwade district of Norwich in 1967, aged 81.

She may have died at Braintree SW Essex in 1949 aged 64. Need to check, her death has been given as 1968 but there are no deaths in that year for a person born in 1885.
