ELLIOTT, Agnes Mary

1879 - 1937

Agnes Mary Elliott was born at Shepherd's Bush, London in 1879, eldest of the ten children of George William James Elliott (1855-31 August 1920), a carpenter, and his wife Agnes née Adams (30 December 1855-1942), who married at Fulham, London in 1878 but both hailed from Suffolk to where the family returned shortly afterwards. In 1911, Agnes was a 31-year-old elementary school head teacher, living at The Elms, Reydon, Southwold, Suffolk with her 26-year-old sister Adelaide Elizabeth, who was an assistant teacher. As Miss A. M. Elliott, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from Nonsuch Close, Milton Road, Wokingham, Berkshire in 1933 'The Thames from Chelsea'. Agnes Mary Elliott died at The Home Farm, Bedfield, Suffolk on 1 February 1937 and the 'Framlingham Weekly News' of 1 January 1938 reports for February 1937 'the remains of Miss A. M. Elliott, a former Suffolk headmistress, were laid to rest at Bedfield', she was unmarried.
