GOUGH, Stella

1893 - 1967

Evelyn Stella Gough was born at 36 Well Street, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 21 August and baptised at St John's church on 22 September 1893, second youngest child of Thomas Gough (1857-1898), malster, and his wife Ellen Edith née Barker (1861-1898), who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1884. Both parents died in 1898 and in 1901, Stella, as she was known, was a 7 year old living at Northgate Street, Bury St Edmund's with her siblings, Ethel Mary 14, Horace Reginald 13, Dorothy 12, Margaret 8, with a housekeeper and two other indoor servants. In 1911, still at the same address, now with brother Horace, a malster, as head with a new younger brother Thomas Geoffrey, born in 1898. In 1935, as Miss Stella Gough, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society from 14 Northgate Street, Bury St Edmund's an oil painting 'Spring Flowers' and a watercolour 'Fishing Boats' but exhibiting from 277 Belle Vue Road, Southbourne, Bournemouth in 1937, a watercolour 'Near Felixstowe Ferry'. She died in Bury St Edmund's in 1967, aged 73, she was unmarried.
