KENNARD, Mary Cleveland

1872 - 1940

As Mary Cleveland Channing, she was born at Hove, Sussex on 20 May 1872, only surviving and eldest child, of a son and three daughters of Francis Allston Channing, 1st Baron Channing of Wellingborough, (21 March 1841–20 February 1926), and his American wife Elizabeth née Bryant (1848-28 August 1925), who married at Trinity Church, Boston, Massachusetts on 21 July 1869. Mary married at St Margaret's Westminster, London on 30 June 1898, Charles Heywood Kennard (18 May 1872-4 September 1957), an underwriter, and painted under the name of Hon. Mrs Kennard. She exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society in 1935 from Pettistree House, near Woodbridge, Suffolk, two watercolours 'Palma, 5am' and 'Morning Mists, Mentone'. In 1939 she was 'on private means' living at Orchard House, 99 Cumberland Street, Woodbridge with her husband Charles and their daughter Violet Elizabeth Grace [Reeves] (6 March 1902-1986), they also had a son, Cyril George Henry (born 2 July 1899). Mary Cleveland Kennard was of Orchard House, Woodbridge when she died at The Lodge, Woodbridge on 2 November 1940.
