AUSTIN, Alice Emma
Alice Emma Austin was born at Saxlingham, Norfolk on 19 January 1859 and baptised at Saxlingham-by-Holt on 13 February 1859, daughter of Fisher Austin (1820-13 August 1888), a farmer, and his wife Sarah née Woodstock, who married at Aylsham, Norfolk on 24 October 1842. In 1861, Alice was a 3-year-old living at The Manor House, The River, Saxthorpe, Aylsham with her parents, 41-year-old Fisher and 38-year-old Sarah, with siblings, Selina A. 16, Sophia 10 and newly born Fred. In 1887, as Alice E. Austin of 12 Wellington Esplanade, Lowestoft, she exhibited at the Woodbridge Industrial & Art Exhibition at the Lecture Hall, Woodbridge, Suffolk three etchings 'Duke of Wellington', 'Thomas Campbell' and a 'Landscape' and six decorated plaques and her sister Sophia was also an exhibitor from the same address of three decorated terra cotta plaques. Her father died at Kirkley, Lowestoft in 1888 and in 1891, her mother Sarah Austin was a 67-year-old widow living at Wellington, Kirkley, Lowestoft with unmarried daughters Sophia 34 [sic] and Alice 26 [sic]. Alice Emma Austin died at Guildford, Surrey in 1929, she was unmarried.
