GILES, Kate

Katharine Susan Giles was born at Oxford in 1962 and spent her childhood in Norfolk. Having completed a B.A. (hons) degree in English at New College Oxford 1981-1984 she then studied at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts 1986-1987 and at Falmouth School of Art 1987-1990, gaining a B.A. (hons) in Fine Art, then studied printmaking and later, life drawing at Morley College, London. Her work has for many years, focused on a keen and intimate vision of the landscape of her native East Anglia. From 2005 she lived and worked at Butley Mills Studios in Suffolk and now divides her time between studios in London and Norfolk. Kate has exhibited regularly, particularly in London and East Anglia but also internationally including at Odon Wagner Gallery, Toronto; Affordable Art Fair, New York and Sharon Arts, Peterborough, New Hampshire, USA and in the United Kingdom at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; Salisbury Museum; The Black Barns, Cockley Cley, Norfolk; Flowers Gallery, Cork Street; Thompson’s Gallery, Marylebone and Mall Galleries, London; Geedon Gallery, Fingeringhoe, Essex; Royal Watercolour Society; Lynne Strover Gallery, Fen Ditton, Cambridge and in Suffolk at the Aldeburgh Festival Exhibition; Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh and Butley Mills Open Studios. Exhibitions have also arisen from a variety of commissions and residencies such as at The National Theatre, The Whitechapel Bell Foundry and Kazan Cathedral, St Petersburgh, Russia. Her work can be found in numerous public and private collections in the UK and abroad including the Britten Pears Foundation, Aviva and Banco Sabadell.
