MOULTRIE, Mabel Praed
Mabel Praed Moultrie was born at the Rectory, Church Road, Rugby, Warwickshire on 11 August and baptised at Rugby St Andrew's on 1 September 1848, eighth and youngest child of Revd John Moultrie (30 December 1799-26 December 1874), rector of Rugby, and his wife Harriet Margaret Fergusson (13 October 1805-9 February 1864), eldest daughter of Dr. Fegusson, Inspector of Hospitals, who married at Windsor on 28 July 1825. In 1861, Mabel was a 12-year-old scholar, living at Rugby Rectory with her parents, 61-year-old John and 55-year-old Harriet and three siblings Mary 23, Margaret 22 and Amy 15, she also had three brothers, her mother died in 1864, aged 58. Figure painter who exhibited at Manchester City Art Gallery in 1886 'In All his Glory' and in 1892 'A Sweet Repose'; the Society of Women Artists in 1885 'High Jinks' also exhibiting at the Birmingham Royal Society of Artists 1882-1894 from London in 1882, Aldeburgh, Suffolk 1884, Walton, Surrey 1889 and Milford, Godalming, Surrey in 1890. In 1891, a 40[sic] year old artist painter in oils, living at Manor Road, Witney, Hambledon, Surrey with a boarder, 46-year-old nurse Ann Hall. Mabel Praed Moultrie was of Monkwood, Haslemere, Surrey when she died at 44 Tedworth Square, Chelsea, London on 9 February 1898, she was unmarried.
