Claudia E. Myatt was born in 1956, daughter of John James Myatt (31 January 1928-31 January 1997) and his wife Elsbeth Modwena née Harnaman (1 May 1931-6 February 2000), who married at Stoke-on-Trent in 1953. Her father was a meteorologist attached to the RAF and their life usually consisted of three years in the UK, then three overseas, including Singapore at the age of nine when her father made little sketchbooks from old weather charts torn up and clipped together. In 1968, when Claudia was aged 12, her father worked at RAF Wattisham in Suffolk and Claudia was educated at Stowmarket Grammar School, where her art tutor was John Charles Philip Constable. Claudia spent two years reading French at Southampton University after which she had several jobs including barmaid and secretarial etc., flat sharing around London, when she again took up drawing, painting miniatures and watercolours. In the early 1990s she had a 24ft cutter which was based at Melton, near Woodbridge in Suffolk and during the summers she went sailing in search of inspiration for her art. She married in the Deben district of Suffolk in 1992, Peregrine James Zachary Crickmere, another sailing enthusiast, and their son James, was born at Ipswich. They then lived at Western Road, Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, where they joined The Royal Burnham Yacht Club. In the mid 2000s her husband left his position in the City of London, and they moved to Narberth, Dyfed, Wales, where they ran a Bread & Breakfast, and creative art courses. After separating from her husband Claudia was able to spend more of her time in drawing, painting, writing, or teaching art. With an obsession with boats and the sea, about 2012 she returned to Suffolk with her home on the 'Else', a former tugboat. Claudia, as artist in Residence for Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute, she spent two months as guest on board the Royal Navy’s ice patrol ship HMS Protector and sketched in places like South Georgia and the Antarctic and illustrates regularly for yachting magazines including 'Classic Boat' and 'Marine Quarterly' and 'Practical Boat Owner' and takes commissions. Her studio is a converted stable near Martlesham Creek on the River Deben at Unit 7, Hall Farm, Church Lane, Martlesham, near Ipswich. She is the author of 'Keeping a Sketchbook Diary'.
