HALSEY, Claire

c.1960 - ?

Claire Davidson Halsey studied textiles at Chelsea School of Art, and for some years worked as a designer for a small fashion company in London and was part of the local art group where she pursued her love of painting, exhibiting every year. Since moving to Suffolk in 2002, Claire has continued to paint while creating and running her own shop in Norwich where she sold her own work. Claire paints still life using a muted palette in oils and is now mainly interested in painting ceramics and flowers, the relationship between objects, the light and shadows they create. Having turned to pottery she enjoys throwing and making domestic ware, using sculpting techniques to create texture, and experimenting with oxides and glazes to create a distressed and tactile feel to her work, which has a natural and soft colour. A former member of the Suffolk Open Studios from her garden studio at Highlands Farmhouse, Brampton, near Halesworth, Suffolk and has exhibited at North House Gallery, Manningtree, Essex.
