GLOVER, Judith

As Judith Morag Trew, she was born on 16 September 1948, eldest of the three children of John Bowen Trew (23 August 1914-18 May 2002) and his wife Barbara Hope née Turner (21 April 1914-10 October 2005), who married at Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa on 13 December 1947. Judith married at Barnstaple, Devon in 1973, John Joseph Glover, and works under the name of Judith Glover. Judith studied at Dartington College of Arts and at Totnes and Hornsey College of Art in North London and more recently at Hampstead Art School, studying portraiture and drawing from life under tutors including Tim Benson and Caroline Deane. Judith's career as an established illustrator has given her a lifetime of ‘drawing bamboos’ and in her career as a professional illustrator she has become known for her delicate watercolours made using a stippling technique in which layer upon layer of pigment is applied in tiny brushstrokes until the required depth of colour is achieved. Plants, flowers and the human face and form are now her subject matter and working in oils and soft pastels have given her the freedom to experiment and work on a larger scale. Underlying all her work is an ever-present commitment to drawing and her illustrations and designs for greetings cards, fabric, ceramics, stationery, calendars, and tinware have been published extensively. In 2013 Judith moved from London to Suffolk where she is a full member of the Suffolk Open Studios from her studio at Greyfriars, 40 Friars Street, Sudbury, Suffolk.
