PERCIVAL, Susan Louisa
As Susan Louisa Daniell, she was born at Benares, Bengal, India on 7 January and baptised on 17 February 1848, only daughter of James Townshend Daniell (29 September 1811-27 March 1887), a Lieut. Col. in the East India Service, and his wife Catherine Bridget née O'Brien, who married at Cheltenham in 1842. James's wife died in 1859 and in 1861, James was a 48-year-old widower, living at Belle Vue Place, Malvern, Upton-upon-Severn, Worcestershire with his three children including 12-year-old Susan and two brothers Robert Holford 14, born Bengal and Adam M 10, born in London. Susan married at St Augustine's Church, Queen's Gate, Kensington on 10 February 1877, Horace Percival (1 October 1834-19 June 1927), a major-general in the East India Service. As Mrs Horace Percival, a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1883-1890, exhibiting watercolours from The Gables, Bramford in 1882 'Sketches in Wales' and 'Sketches of Bramford', in 1883 four watercolours 'Tremadoe Rocks', 'Sketches in Wales', 'Pass ner Pont Aberglaslin' and 'Sketcher' and in 1885 from Barham Hall, Ipswich two watercolours 'Three Sketches, Sproughton, Tintern Abbey and Wales' and 'Sketch on the Orwell'. As Mrs H. Percival she also exhibited at the Bury St Edmund's Fine Art Society in 1882, two watercolours entitled 'Sketches near Ipswich' which won the 1st prize in the watercolour class. By 1891 they had moved to New House, Grimston Road, Pakenham, Suffolk where they kept four indoor servants. Susan Louisa Percival died at 30 Pulteney Street, Bath, Somerset on 7 June 1918, aged 69 and both her and her husband were buried in St Mary's Churchyard, Bathwick.
