PLOWMAN, Elizabeth

1842 - 1921

Born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk in 1842, daughter of William Plowman, a stonemason, and his first wife Sarah née Nuthall (1815-1845), who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1838. In 1851 an 8 year old living at 16 Out Southgate, Bury St Edmund's with her 39 year old widowed father, with two siblings, Edward 11 and Alice 7. Her father had remarried by 1871 and in 1881 a governess living with her widowed step-mother Mary Ann at 34 Bridewell Lane, Bury St Edmund's and were still there in 1891. By 1901, an artist at 30 Bridewell Lane and ten years later a 'teacher of drawing' at the same address with her cousin, 69 year old Alice Sarah Nunn, as a companion. She is listed as an exhibited at Ipswich Fine Art Club from Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmund's in 1883 but no painting is noted and maybe the Miss E. Plowman who exhibited at the Royal Acadamy in 1912. She died at Brentford, Middlesex in 1921, aged 79, she was unmarried.
