PLOWMAN, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Plowman was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk in 1842, daughter of William Plowman (1812-9 May 1887), a stonemason, and his first wife Sarah née Nuthall (1815-1845), who married at Northgate Street Chapel, Bury St Edmund's on 10 August 1838. In 1851, Elizabeth was an 8-year-old, living at 16 Out Southgate, Bury St Edmund's with her 39-year-old widowed father, with two siblings, Edward 11 and Alice 7 with her 60-year-old grandmother Sarah Plowman. Her father remarried at St Nicholas Church, Chiswick on 23 April 1862, Mary Ann Cornish and in 1881 Elizabeth was a governess living at 34 Bridewell Lane, Bury St Edmund's with her 69-year father and her 64-year-old stepmother Mary Ann, who was widowed in 1887 but in 1891 Elizabeth and her stepmother were still at 34 Bridewell Lane. Her step-mother died in 1905 by which time they had moved to 30 Bridewell Lane. In 1911, a teacher of drawing, at 30 Bridewell Lane with her cousin, 69-year-old Alice Sarah Nunn, as a companion and was still there in 1914. Elizabeth is listed as an exhibitor at Ipswich Fine Art Club from Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmund's in 1883, but no painting is noted. Elizabeth Plowman was of 12 Fordhook Avenue, Ealing when she died at Warworth House, Twickenham Road, Isleworth, Middlesex on 4 May 1922, aged 79, she was unmarried.
