Lorette Roberts

As Lorette E. Wilson, she was born in Bath, Somerset in 1945. Lorette attended a five-day watercolour workshop run by The Chelsea Physic Garden and apart from that course, Lorette had no formal art training. Lorette married in Blyth, Suffolk in 1967, William O. W. Roberts (born 1941) and works under the name of Lorette Roberts. She followed a different career path in her early life and travelled and lived abroad for several years developing her skills of sketching, and researching local customs and curiosities, Lorette also edited and illustrated a monthly ‘site magazine’ whilst living in construction villages in South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Whilst in Hong Kong she continued to sketch and paint, which were published as 'Sights & Secrets Sketches and Paintings of Hong Kong' being followed by several more sketchbooks of the Far East. This led to commissions from private individuals, charities, and hotels when Lorette provided the sketches and drawings for the Peninsula Hotel for their book 'Our Hong Kong'. Lorette has exhibited widely including in Hong Kong at Karen Webber Gallery; Foreign Correspondents Club; Li Wing Tong Gallery; Picture This Gallery; The Nesbitt Centre and elsewhere also at Bridge House, Hertfordshire and is a member of Suffolk Open Studios from Trust Farm Studio, Spring Lane, Dennington, Suffolk. Lorette has run workshops for many years, firstly in UK, followed by in Hong Kong but now back in her Suffolk Studio.
