REES, John Charles

1878 - 1964

John Charles Rees was born at Hackney, London on 2 November 1878, eldest child of John Charles Rees (1843-8 May 1899), a railway clerk, and his wife Sarah Ann née Day (1849-1929), who married at Hethersett, Norfolk on 28 January 1878. On the death of his father in 1899, the family moved to Ipswich living at 6 Friars Street, Priory Place and in 1911, young John was a 32 year old commercial artist, living at 21 Kings Avenue, Ipswich, with his 61 year old widowed mother, who was born at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk and his three siblings, Ivor Llewellyn 30, Cedric 27 and Evelyn 21, all born at Forest Gate, Essex. In 1921 John was an advertising poster and commercial designer living at 151 Princes Street, Ipswich and he married at Ipswich in 1922, Eva Priscilla Baker, (20 January 1883-7 April 1959). In 1939 a retired advertising manager, living with his wife at 95 Langer Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk. John Charles Rees was of 261 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich when he died at St Mary's Hospital, Tattingstone, Ipswich on 14 May 1964, aged 85.
