REYNOLDS, Owen Blair

1904 - 1941

Owen Blair Reynolds was born at 10 Tor Gardens, Kensington, London on 28 July 1904, only son of Thomas Blair Reynolds (19 May 1860-6 September 1941), chairman of the Globe and Phoenix Gold Mining Company, and his wife Mabel Edith Maud née Galsworthy (7 October 1871-4 December 1942), who married at St Pancras, London on 29 June 1897 and in 1939 were living at Maresfield Beech Waye, Gerrards Cross, Eton, Buckinghamshire. In 1911, Owen was a 6-year-old, living at Kensington with his parents, 50-year-old Thomas Blair and 39-year-old Mabel Edith, with sibling sister Veronica Meredith Reynolds 3, they also had visitors, 45-year-old Dutch artist painter William Leonard Brickman and his wife Viola, and they retained five indoor servants. Owen was a landscape painter who travelled for his work, to Algiers in 1928 and to South Africa in 1930, which he exhibited at the Arlington Gallery; Birmingham Royal Society of Artists; Walker Art Gallery; the Royal Academy; Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters 1927-1938 from London in 1927 and from Long Melford, Suffolk 1933. He also exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1932, from The Old Rectory, Alpheton, Long Melford, Suffolk, two oils 'Tunny Boats at Concarnean' and 'Woodbridge Mill'. He married at Dixton, Monmouth, Wales on 18 April 1920, Joyce Emily Tyler (born 14 October 1908), elder daughter of George E. Tyler of Callow Hill, Monmouth. In 1939 an artist painter, still living at The Old Rectory, Alpheton with his wife and their daughter Jocelyn (born 11 February 1932). Owen Blair Reynolds died of cancer at Alpheton on 29 January 1941. His widow married at Hendon in 1944, Clifford Williams.
