ROBERTSON, Agnes Hall

1847 - 1933

Born at Hawick, Roxburgh, Scotland on 14 December 1847, daughter of John Robertson, collector of customs, and his wife Elizabeth née Turnbull. They moved from Scotland about 1853 and in 1861, Agnes was a 16 year old scholar living at 23 Marine Parade, Lowestoft with her parents, 45 year old John and 45 year old Agnes, and her eight siblings but by 1871 they had moved to Old Nelson Street. She exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Strowan House, 17 Nelson Street, Lowestoft in 1881 three watercolours ‘Lowestoft Denes’, 'Pont y Lledhr, North Wales' and 'Pakefield Beach' and in 1882 'Kessingland Cliff', 'Gunton Lane' and 'Lowestoft Denes'. In 1891 she was a 46 year old keeping a school with nine boarding pupils at London Road, Lowestoft and by 1901 was a 56 year old principal of a girls' school (retired) living at Corton Road, Lowestoft, together with her 51 year old unmarried sister Mary. She died at Lowestoft in 1933, aged 88, she was unmarried.
