BAYLEY, James Rogers

1825 - 1915

Born at Woodbridge, Suffolk on 17 June 1825 and baptised at Stoke Green Baptist Chapel, Ipswich on the same day, son of William Bayley and his wife Mary née Rogers. In 1861 a ship-builder & owner, unmarried, living on his own account at 47 Key Street, Ipswich. He married at Ipswich in January 1863, Catherine Ridley, who died in 1870, aged 31, and in 1871, a widower with three children Florence Kate [q.v.], Ada 4, and Edith 3 with a governess, cook, page and nursemaid. In 1871 he left the partnership of William Bayley & Sons, shipbuilders and in 1881 living at Oakland House, 21 Broughton Road, Ipswich and in the same year exhibited ‘Study of Trees’ at the Ipswich Fine Art Club. James died at Broughton Road, Ipswich in 1915, aged 90 and buried in Ipswich Cemetery.
