BAYLEY, James Rogers

1825 - 1915

James Rogers Bayley, was born at Woodbridge, Suffolk on 17 June 1825 and baptised at Stoke Green Baptist Chapel, Ipswich on the same day, son of William Bayley and his wife Mary née Rogers. In 1861, an unmarried ship-builder & owner, living on his own account at 47 Key Street, Ipswich. He married at Ipswich in January 1863, Catherine Ridley, who died in 1870, aged 31, and in 1871, a widower with three children Florence Kate [q.v.], Ada Mary 4, and Edith 3, with a governess, cook, page and nursemaid. In 1871, he left the partnership of William Bayley & Sons, shipbuilders and in 1881 living at Oakland House, 21 Broughton Road, Ipswich and in the same year exhibited ‘Study of Trees’ at the Ipswich Fine Art Club. James died at 21 Broughton Road, Ipswich on 29 July 1915, aged 90, and buried in Ipswich Cemetery.
