Frank Pond

Frank James Pond was born at All Saint’s Green, off Queen’s Road, Norwich on 8 July 1924, only child of James Pond and his wife Hilda Beatrice née Merry (1903-1979) who married at Norwich in 1923. Frank's lifelong passion with art began at the age of four when his mother took him to visit the art on display at Norwich Castle Museum. Frank was educated locally and won a scholarship to the City of Norwich School 1935–1940, when Walter Watling was his art teacher. A Norfolk artist and a founder member of the Norwich Twenty Group in 1944 but he studied at the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing at Benton End, Hadleigh in Suffolk from May 1945 when he travelled from Norwich to Hadleigh by train. A local government officer until 1981 but always maintained an interest in art and music. He married at the Old Meeting House Congregational Church in 1951, Jean Mildred Moore (20 January 1927-12 April 2021) and they had two daughters. Frank James Pond died at Norwich on 17 October 2021.
