SALMON, William Henry
William Henry Salmon was born at Bury St Edmund’s, Suffolk on 28 December 1822 and baptised at St James’s church, Bury St Edmund’s on 25 January 1823, eldest child of William Salmon (1798-4 January 1860), a tailor, and his wife Ann née Goldsmith (1796-March 1858), who married at Bury St Edmund's on 25 December 1821. In 1841, William was an 18-year-old printer, living at Hatter Street, Bury St Edmund’s with his parents, William who was born at Great Yarmouth and Ann who was born at Manchester, with his sibling brother George Robert Salmon (1835-1854). The 'Bury and Norwich Post' of 8 March 1854 noted young William's death ‘On the 3rd inst., aged 31, having only three days before lost his only child, aged one month, Mr. W. H. Salmon, of Hatter-street, in this town. He was originally a printer, having been apprenticed in the office of this paper; but exhibiting considerable talent as a draughtsman, was persuaded by his friends, and induced by delicate health to pursue the art as a profession, and had attained to so much excellence, more especially in portrait painting, as to promise a realisation of the brightest hopes of his friends. His death will be deeply lamented by all who knew him.' William Henry Salmon died at Bury St Edmund's on 3 March 1854, he was unmarried.
