SAYERS, Freda Irene

1902 - 1976

Born at East Dereham, Norfolk on 9 September 1902, daughter of Ernest Robert Sayers (1873-1959), an accountant and later Chief inspector for Barclays Bank, and his wife Jane Bacchus née Press (1873-1942), who was the daughter Thomas Press, harbour master at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, who married at Great Yarmouth in 1898. In 1911, an 8 year old living at 63 Gainsborough Road, Ipswich with her parents, 37 year old Ernest and 38 year old Jane. She studied at Ipswich School of Art and at Regent Street Polytechnic and a watercolour painter and sculptor. She exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and at the Royal Academy 1929-1939 from London. In 1939, an ambulance driver but described herself as a sculptor of 4 Sedlescombe Road, Fulham, London which is also known as St Oswalds Studios, and from about 1959 she lived at 59 Waldemar Avenue Mansions, Fulham, London and died at Fulham in 1976, she was unmarried.
