SEAGER, Robert

1847 - 1921

Robert Seager was born at Ipswich in 1847, eldest of the three children of Robert Seager (11 March 1822-29 April 1890), pork butcher, and his wife Caroline née Jackson (1821-23 January 1908), who married at Ipswich in 1844. In 1861, Robert was a 14-year-old, living at 13 St Peter's Street, Ipswich with his parents, 39-year-old Robert, ham & bacon curer, and 40-year-old Caroline and two siblings Joseph William (1852-1927) and Caroline Elizabeth Mary (Thomas 1854-1887), both born at Ipswich. Robert married at Ipswich in 1868 Hannah Spencer of Westhall, Suffolk and in 1871, a 24-year-old 'commercial clerk in the provision trade', living at 27 Commercial Road, Ipswich with his 25-year-old wife Hannah and their 3 month old daughter Euphie, born Ipswich, they went on to have four more children. Landscape painter in oil and watercolour and a member of Ipswich Fine Art Club 1896-1910 but had exhibited from Dalton Road, Ipswich in 1885 'An Evening View, Walberswick' and 'An Old Wall, Walberswick' exhibiting some twenty-four works including watercolours 'A View of Oulton Broad', 'Evening View of Lake Lothing' and an oil 'A Bit of Lowestoft Harbour'. In 1901, living at 7 Dalton Road, Ipswich with his 55-year-old wife Hannah and two of their daughters, 30-year-old Euphie, a music teacher, and 28-year-old Mabel Seager, a commercial clerk, and Robert and Hannah were still living there in 1911. Robert Seager died at 45 Avondale Road, Gorleston-on-Sea, Suffolk (actually Norfolk) on 10 September 1921, aged 74.
