SIMS, William Dillwyn
William Dillwyn Sims was born at Westminster, London on 7 July 1825, son of Dr John Sims, M.D. (27 May 1792-19 July 1838) and his wife Lydia Dillwyn (11 April 1875-17 March 1830), third daughter of William Dillwyn of Higham Lodge, Walthamstow, who married at Friends Meeting House at Winchmore Hill, Enfield on 16 April 1823, Lydia's sister married Richard Dykes Alexander, banker of Ipswich. In 1851, William was a 25-year-old, living at the St Matthew's Street, Ipswich home of R.D. Alexander. William married at Friends' Meeting House, Tottenham, London on 13 September 1855, Eliza May (28 July 1826-9 January 1915), daughter of Dr Edward Curtis May (1796-1877) of Tottenham and Caroline née Hooper (1790-1883). In 1861, William was a 35-year-old agricultural implement maker in the firm of Ransomes and Sims, living at Maybush Lodge House, Felixstowe with his 34-year-old wife Eliza and 46-year-old brother-in-law George Alexander, a retired banker, and his 35-year-old cousin Margaret Sims. William was a patron of Needham Market Fine Art & Industrial Exhibition which held an exhibition in the Lecture Hall of the Town Hall, Needham Market, Suffolk in July 1867. By 1881, a retired engineer, and exhibited at Ipswich Fine Art Club from 75 St Matthew's Street, Ipswich in 1884, three watercolours 'Matlock Bath Cottages, near Walker's Hotel', 'Rievaulx Abbey, Yorkshire, by Moonlight' and 'Rievaulx Abbey, Yorkshire'. William was also a keen photographer. William Dillwyn Sims died at St Matthew's Street, Ipswich on 7 March 1895, aged 69. William and Eliza had issue, Lydia (1858-1931) who married Edward Ernest May (1858-1938), Anna Olivia (1860-1947), John Dillwyn (1862-1905), who married Mildred Ransome and Caroline May (1864-1929).
