BEAUMONT, Emma

1835 - 1912

Emma Beaumont was baptised at Mendham, Suffolk on 2 August 1835, daughter of James Beaumont (1806-5 March 1887) and his wife Maria née Gidney (1800-3 September 1880), who married at Mendham on 7 October 1834, and she is a sister to George Beaumont. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1875-1879 and exhibited from Friars Street, Sudbury in 1876 'Feeding the Pets' and 'Fruit' and in 1878 'Cottages on Sudbury Common' and 'Primroses and Bird's Nest'. In 1881, a drawing teacher, living at 48 Friars Street, Sudbury with her widowed father, a retired farmer, and her unmarried 40-year-old sister Maria, a governess. Emma was still living at Sudbury with her sister in 1901 when Emma is described as ‘artist and teacher’ and in 1908 'an artist' at the same address. Emma Beaumont died at 46 Friars Street, Sudbury on 24 February 1912, aged 76, and described as an 'artist', buried in Sudbury Cemetery five days later, she was unmarried.
