SNELL, Revd Charles

1822 - 1900

Born at St George's Hanover Square, Westminster on 10 September and baptised on 7 October 1822, son of Edward Snell and his wife Mary Ann. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford and graduated B.A. in 1850 took holy orders and proceeded M.A in 1952. He married at Loughborough, Leicestershire on 25 October 1854, Matilda Katherine Dashwood, daughter of Revd Samuel Vere Dashwood and Caroline Hammond. In 1861 was curate of Oulton, near Lowestoft, Suffolk with his 30 year old wife and a daughter and in 1862 became rector of Oulton. An amateur artist and a member of Ipswich Fine Art Club 1882-1883 and exhibited from Oulton Rectory in 1882 two watercolours 'Oulton Broad, Corner near Railway' and 'Blundeston Mill, Oulton Dyke' and in 1883 two more watercolours 'Oulton Regatta' and 'Oulton Broad'. In 1891 living at The Rectory, Charles Road, Oulton and he died at Tunbridge Wells, Kent in 1900, aged 77.
