SNELL, Revd Charles
Charles Snell was born at St George's Hanover Square, Westminster on 10 September 1822 and baptised on 7 October 1822, son of Edward Snell and his wife Mary Ann. Charles Snell matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford, and graduated B.A. in 1850 and took holy orders, proceeding M.A in 1852. He married at Stanford on the Soar, Leicestershire on 25 October 1854, Matilda Katherine Dashwood (1831-3 August 1909), second daughter of Revd Samuel Vere Dashwood and Caroline Hammond. In 1861, curate at Oulton, near Lowestoft, Suffolk with his 30-year-old wife Matilda and a 5-year-old daughter Katherine Mary [Beauchamp], and in 1862 took over as rector of Oulton. An amateur artist and a member of Ipswich Fine Art Club 1882-1883 and exhibited from Oulton Rectory in 1882, two watercolours 'Oulton Broad, Corner near Railway' and 'Blundeston Mill, Oulton Dyke' and in 1883 two more watercolours 'Oulton Regatta' and 'Oulton Broad'. In 1891, living at The Rectory, Charles Road, Oulton. Charles Snell died at 8 Upper Grosvenor Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 29 January 1900, aged 77.
