THE CUT HALESWORTH

2002 - ?

Malt Room Gallery

In March 1998 an artists’ co-operative called PanTeknikon began to organise exciting one-off exhibitions and performances in a derelict old maltings on New Cut and the group, soon to be known as New Cut Arts (NCA), met to discuss the possibility of setting up a charitable trust to fundraise for the development of the building and in the year 2000 Charitable status was granted to NCA and fundraising raised over £4,000 to get the project started. In 2002 the 1st Halesworth Arts Festival was successfully inaugurated by NCA. The Cut is fully open for events and classes, employs full-time and part time staff and uses a roster of dedicated volunteers, The Cut now offers Halesworth and the surrounding countryside arts, music, theatre, dance, comedy, cinema, workshops, and exhibitions. The Malt Room Gallery is a large light filled gallery on an upper floor, used as a gallery space for regularly changing exhibitions. The art programme at The Cut is organised by a panel of nine people with an art coordinator Tony Casement. Exhibitions change on a 4/6 week basis with installation/ dismantling taking place over Saturday afternoon, Sundays and Mondays with the shows starting on a Tuesday and the preview usually on a Saturday. Exhibitions can be in both the Malt Room Gallery and Café area or separate artists in The Malt Room gallery and Cafe or groups of artists showing in both spaces.
