SPOONER, Octavia

1820 - 1883

As Octavia Mosley, she was born at Rolleston Hall, Staffordshire on 14 February 1820 and baptised on 20 February 1820, daughter of Sir Oswald Mosley, 2nd Bart. (27 March 1785-24 May 1871) and his wife Sophia Ann née Every (1779-8 June 1859), second daughter of Sir Edward Every, 8th Bart., who married at St James's Church, Piccadilly, London on 6 February 1804. In 1851, the family were living at Burton-on-Trent, 66-year-old Sir Oswald and 70-year-old Sophia, with four of their thirteen children, Sophia Ann 44, Emily 43, Octavia 31 and Letitia 24, all born at Rolleston, and they retained sixteen indoor servants. Octovia married at All Souls', Langham Place, Marylebone, London on 9 June 1857, Revd Edward Spooner (6 July 1821-25 January 1899). In 1881, a 61-year-old, living at The Deanery, Hadleigh, Suffolk with her 59-year-old husband Edward, rector of Hadleigh and Rural Dean. Octavia Spooner is listed as an exhibitor at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Hadleigh, Suffolk in 1883, nothing of her work was included in the show probably due to her death at The Hollings, Hampsthwaite, Yorkshire on 18 June 1883, aged 63. She was buried at Rolleston St Mary on 22 June 1883. Her husband Revd Edward Spooner married secondly at St Mary le Tower Church, Ipswich on 5 October 1885, Anna Frances Cobbold of Holywells, Ipswich.
