LLEWELLYN ALEXANDER GALLERY

c.1988 - 2018

Llewellyn Alexander Gallery

Llewellyn Alexander Gallery at 124-126 The Cut, near to Waterloo Station in London and opposite the Old Vic specialised in original oils, watercolours and pastels and displayed a new exhibition nearly every month. Every summer, the Llewellyn Alexander held a show entitled ‘Not the Royal Academy’ featuring twelve hundred of the best paintings that were not accepted by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Thousands of paintings are received by the Royal Academy and other art galleries each year for inclusion in their exhibitions but many of them are rejected due to inadequate quality standards or space constraints. The Llewellyn Alexander Gallery accepted many of those paintings and exhibited them in their gallery, thereby giving those paintings a new opportunity. The gallery existed for some thirty years before it closure in February 2018.
