JOBSON, Frank Mears

Frank Mears Jobson was born at Cambridge Heath, London on 12 April 1892, son of Henry William Jobson (17 February 1862-21 December 1941), a sign-writer & coach painter, and his wife Lizzie Amelia Mears (30 May 1858-1 March 1949), daughter of Ebenzer Mears, who married at Upper Clapton, London on 19 May 1885. In 1901, Frank was an 8-year-old, living at 9 Aveley Road, Hackney with his parents, 38-year-old Henry, born Chesterton, Cambridgeshire and 42-year-old Lizzie, born Bethnal Green, London, and his sibling sister 13-year-old Alice, born Clapton. By 1911, his parents had moved to 345 Wanstead Park Road, Ilford, when 18-year-old Frank was apprenticed to his father as a sign-writer. He married at St Clement's Church, Ilford, Essex on 30 March 1918, Marjorie Doris Fenn (15 August 1893-9 January 1958), their son was the artist Patrick Arthur Jobson (5 September 1919-29 January 2007). Frank carried on his sign-writing business at Ilford and in 1939 was a master sign maker, designer & draughtsman, living at 3 Palace Gardens, Chigwell, Essex with his wife Marjorie. After the Second World War he came to Ipswich as a public house sign painter, living at 2 Lattice Avenue and later settled at 56 Digby Road, Ipswich. At Ipswich he took up painting using the pseudonym of Theolophis Thijckheide and used a Ladybird insignia with the date. Frank Mears Jobson died at 56 Digby Road, Ipswich on 3 February 1976.
