TUCK, William Henry

1840 - 1922

Born at Great Moulton, near Wymondham, Norfolk on 3 October 1840, eldest son of Revd William Gilbert Tuck [died 1887] of Tostock House, Bury St Edmundís, Suffolk, and his wife Anne Elizabeth, only child of Edward Smyth of West Bradenham Hall, Norfolk. Educated at Ipswich grammar school and on 15 February 1858 admitted pensioner at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, graduating BA in 1863 proceeding MA in 1866. He married at Plymouth, Devon in 1866, Jane St John, only daughter of John Wreford Budd, MD, of Plymouth, Devon. He lived at 5 Southgate Green, Bury St Edmundís and exhibited a portrait at the Royal Academy in 1874 from his home in St Johnís Wood, London. His wife died at Paddington, London in 1899, aged 52, when he returned to Tostock House, Bury St Edmunds, living with his sister & brother-in-law, being described at author/journalist. In 1911 living on 'own means' at 5 Southgate Green, Bury St Edmund's with his now widowed sister. He died at Bury St Edmund's on 29 November 1922.
