WALLER, Alice
Alice Maude Mary Waller was born at Montreal, Canada around 1859, daughter of Charles Waller (1826-1867), an army officer, and his wife Frances Caroline Kerr Waller, née Hollingsworth, who married at Stowmarket, Suffolk on 5 April 1853. In 1871, Alice was a 12-year-old, living at Cumberland House, St Helen's Street, Ipswich with her 37-year-old widowed mother Frances, and siblings Charlotte 9 and Hilda Wilmont 8. In 1881, Alice was a 22-year-old mother's assistant, living at Clifton Villas, 1 Anglesea Road, Ipswich, with her 47-year-old mother Frances, and sibling sisters Lucy24, Hilda Wilmont 18 and Kathleen 12, also all born in Canada, a 12-year-old cousin Kathleen F. Moore, born in India and they retained two indoor servants. As Miss A. Waller, an exhibitor at the Ipswich Fine Art Society from 49 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich in 1884, of seven sculptures 'Pip, a Bob-tailed English Sheep Dog', 'House Dog and Wolf', 'Cat and Dog Life', 'Pepper-A Portrait', 'Who will tell the Cat?', 'Toad' and 'Dog at Play' and in 1887 she exhibited at the Bury St Edmund's Fine Art Society a dog portrait 'At his Work'. By 1891, Alice and the family had moved to Manor House, Leighton Road, Newton Longville, Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire and in 1911 they were living at The Red House, Newton Longville. Alice Maude Mary Waller died at The Red House, Newton Longville, Bletchley on 9 June 1939, aged 80, she was unmarried.
