WILSON, William Heath

1849 - 1927

Born at Glasgow in 1849, son of Charles Heath Wilson (1809-1882), an artist, and his second wife Johanna Catherine, daughter of William John Thomson, portrait-painter, who married at Edinburgh on 16 August 1848. Brother to Annie Heath Wilson [q.v.]. He studied under his father, who was headmaster of Glasgow School of Design 1849-1864, and was a landscape and genre painter who exhibited at Birmingham Royal Society of Artists; Fine Art Society; Grosvenor Gallery; Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; New English Art Club; the Royal Academy; the Royal Society of British Artists; the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Society of British Artists from Florence 1880, London 1885, Betchworth, Surrey 1896 and Wenhaston, Suffolk 1908. In 1911, a 61 year old 'living on own means' with his 59 year old unmarried sister Annie Heath Wilson at Sunnyside, Wenhaston, Suffolk.
